Page Archive submits pages to the public Wayback Machine by default on the hosted service. Submission can be disabled for each scout. AI analysis sends page content and search criteria through OpenRouter to Google Vertex.

Installation and deployment

Hosted service and separate self-hosting. The Docker installer sets up the frontend, Supabase database, Edge Functions and schedules. OpenRouter, Firecrawl, Apify, Resend and MapTiler require your own keys. The local CLI is a client for the chosen service.

Requirements

Hosted service: sign-in through MuckRock. Self-hosting: your own Supabase and service accounts.

Export

JSON through the REST API and account download; Page Archive includes MHTML, screenshots, Markdown, hashes and an RFC-3161 timestamp.

Usage note

The hosted service terms restrict Scoutpost to investigative work in the public interest and prohibit private surveillance, stalking and coerced employee monitoring.

Limitations

  • Page Scouts run at most daily; Beat and Civic Scouts run weekly or monthly.
  • Civic Scout, Fleet Scout and Page Archive are Pro and Team features on the hosted service.
  • Self-hosting requires additional infrastructure and your own keys for AI, scraping and other services.
